Betty Pemberton, owner of Impressions the Salon and Spa in Danville, KY, and her salon team have been selected as the grand prize winners in the Matrix Fashion’s Night Out National Event competition. The salon won the competition with a combination fashion show and flash mob, held on the campus of nearby Centre College.

Fashion’s Night Out is an annual national shopping extravaganza, celebrating beauty and fashion, founded by Vogue Magazine and held on September 8. This year Matrix partnered with Fashion’s Night Out to celebrate the launch of the new Matrix Total Results hair care and styling collection. The Impressions event was one of hundreds of Fashion’s Night Out events held simultaneously and nationwide by Matrix Spread the Love Salons. Matrix challenged the entire Spread the Love community to compete for the grand prize of two, all-expense paid trips to New York City, and selected Impressions for its original ideas and execution.

According to Pemberton, the day started with a more serious event, when the salon team styled a group of local mentally challenged young women for a beauty pageant. “We were so pleased and proud to be able to work with these 16 girls, to help make their day special,” she comments. Next, the salon team created hair styles and coordinating wardrobes for five Centre College student models, each representing one of the Total Results hair care and styling collections—Amplify, Sleek, Moisture, Curl and Color Care.

The hair styles represented the theme of each range, and the clothing coordinated with the respective packaging shades. Finally, it was off to the Centre College campus, where the models strutted their stuff and a troop of young dancers (Betty’s granddaughter and friends) entertained the audience with their interpretation of the song YMCA. Finally, the models, Impressions staff, dancers and assorted extras broke out into a flash mob dance routine to a medley of songs, including Dynamite, YMCA and New York, New York as onlookers held up Total Results posters. “It was so much fun!” exclaims Pemberton.  “Everyone in the audience got samples of Total Results products and we’ve seen a significant increase in new business since.”

To promote the event, Pemberton reports that the staff took part in Centre College’s back-to-school Expo, where they handed out flyers and additional Total Results samples. Impressions’ digital guru, stylist Amber Finley, also posted frequent updates on the salon’s Facebook page and Tweeted to fans.  As a result of the team’s efforts, Pemberton has decided to invite Amber and another team member to use the free tickets to New York, and she and her daughter, who also works at the salon, will join them at their expense.

“I opened the salon 28 years ago and we’re all family—staff and clients,” says Pemberton. “I always say that I never feel like I’m going to work because I’m doing what I love. Matrix is a big part of it—the company really cares about stylists and salons’ success. We’re pleased that they’re part of our family and we’re proud to be a Matrix Spread the Love salon!”
