Schwarzkopf Professional USA announced the appointment of Nicole Hartmann as their Fashion Director. In her new position, Hartmann will be guiding Schwarzkopf in a fashion forward direction, translating fashion trends into salon profits.
“Schwarzkopf is taking a different route to be more fashion driven,” says Hartman, a Munich-native raised by stylist parents. “People will look to us to tell them how they can relate the runway looks to their in-salon stying.” Using current trends as her inspiration, Hartmann will establish content for major shows, and create new educational programs and programs to develop stylists.
Hartmann received a Master’s degree in Hairdressing in Germany. “When you decide to become a hairdresser there it takes you three years and you work at a salon at the same time. After each year, you do a big written exam and a practical hands-on exam. So, in Europe people getting into hairdressing take it seriously because it is a big commitment.”
Favorite part of doing hair: I love the people. As a stylist, I can actually touch their lives—it’s a super powerful thing.
Favorite hair colors: Chocolates are my favorite—specifically IGORA Royal 6-68 and 6-65. The look of warm dark chocolate with honey highlights is a gorgeous combination.
Favorite designers: Love the vibe from Alexander McQueen, Jenny Packham and Stella McCartney
If Schwarzkopf was a woman: She would be a combination of Jennifer Lopez, Marion Cotillard and Jessica Chastain. At the Golden Globes, I loved Jessica’s hair; it was so sculpted and interesting. Styles have come back to obvious hairdressing. Your hair has to be “done.”
