THE EVENT:

The Christian Siriano 2010 spring/summer collection presented in a fashion show in the Promenade Tent at Bryant Park during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York.

THE DETAILS: Antoinette Beenders, vice president global creative director for Aveda, and 11 assistants worked on the 30 models booked for the show. Although Beenders and team arrived hours before the show for prep, many of the models did not arrive until minutes before the lights dimmed and the music came up. "But we pulled it off," says Beenders.

THE 'DO: The finished silhouette was the only one of its kind shown this season. Beenders designed a low sleek ponytail with a textured bouquet of "waves" combining both smooth and rough textures. The design worked to complement the ocean that inspired Siriano. "We wanted waves and the shimmering silks, silvers and blues of the sea," says Beenders. "I call this look the ‘wave' because of the back; a combed wave that floats atop the ponytail. It's elegant and modern."

GETTING THERE: Beenders and team used Aveda Light Elements Texturizing Crème, Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion and Aveda Air Control to achieve the look. A horseshoe section is isolated along the top. All hair below the rounds is drawn to the back and secured at the nape. The ponytail is flatironed. The top section is directed over the ponytail. Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion is sprinkled over the section and massaged into the hair to create volume and a matte, rough texture. The section is then subdivided into smaller sections, which are then wrapped around a curl rod to create spirals. The top section is then brushed and lightly backcombed and then sculpted to the base of the ponytail.
