NAHA 2010 Master Hairstylist of the Year winners, and L’anza Creative Directors, Oscar and Wendy Bond say NAHA was their biggest accomplishment in their beauty careers.
“It something you strive to achieve,” says Oscar. “It’s a really good feeling getting the recognition of your peers, mentors, and people who’ve gotten the award before you.”
Wendy feels the same way, “It’s really inspiring to see such great work and to create a sense of permanence about a kind of work that’s usually temporary.”
Aside from NAHA, these two beauty professionals are giving back to students through The Bond Academy. “We want it to be the MIT of hairdressing. We want to produce what we call ‘salon-ready’ career professionals—people who are trained, not just to be stylists, but who’ll be really well-rounded assets to our industry,” says Wendy.
Both Wendy and Oscar agree that their favorite part of hairdressing lies within client interaction. “Our clients really look forward to coming to their hairdresser every month,” says Oscar. “I think we make a big difference in people’s lives.”
