Skin Smarts: A Tour of Dermalogica’s Santa Monica Spa

Dermalogica, a skin care system researched and developed by The International Dermal  Institute, a postgraduate training program for skin care professionals begun by Jane Wurwand, has seven concept spaces around the world.  Each features the brands’ Skin Bar, Face Mapping Skin Analysis, MicroZone Treatments and Skin Treatments.

When clients belly up to the Skin Bar they are “served” sample products as part of the discussion with a licensed skin therapist.  Face Mapping involves an examination of the skin which forms the basis for proactive preventive care.  It’s the first step in the client experience.

Targeted 20-minute MicroZone Treatments are performed in semi-private stations—no appointment needed.   At the Santa Monica space on Montana Avenue, Erin Carey, the spa manager, says they are extremely popular and that when it was first introduced, they saw a marked increase in foot traffic and overall store activity.  Skin Smarts: A Tour of Dermalogica’s Santa Monica Spa

Skin care treatments are performed in private pods with adjustable colored lighting and audio options.  The Skin Pods feature a “treatment tree” which stores product vertically, saving floor-space and reducing repetition-fatigue for therapists.
