When Matt Swinney was in high school, a promising career in professional football was derailed by an injury, and his dreams of going to Arizona State University took a detour. And though the Minneapolis native has had plenty of jobs ranging from bouncer to server to a palett-deconstructer and a UPS employee, a career in beauty was in his blood.
Swinney is the proud son of two hairdressers who have a combined 84 years in professional beauty as salon owners of a successful “shampoo set/Friday salon” and both served as presidents of pro beauty trade associations.
On July 23, 2016, at Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, NV, the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) and Cosmoprof North America (CPNA) hosted INSPIRE: A Night Celebrating Beauty Entrepreneurs. The evening featured the very popular Beauty Pitch 2016, a one-of-a-kind event that provides entrepreneurs from all sectors of the beauty industry a way to connect with qualified investors and the industry at large. New for 2016, Beauty Pitch featured opportunities for beauty entrepreneurs in two separate categories: startup and established.
Over 1,000 attendees gathered last night to watch Beauty Pitch 2016, a one-of-a-kind beauty competition, hosted by the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) and Cosmoprof North America (CPNA). Six innovative beauty companies, in two different categories, pitched their products before a live audience and celebrity judges including John Paul DeJoria and Kevin Harrington.
After being nominated regional instructor of the year, Danielle Markley of Hays Academy was announced as Wella’s National Instructor of the Year for 2016. As instructor of the year, Danielle Markley was awarded an all-expenses paid trip to attend the National Trend Vision Awards in Las Vegas on July 25, where she will receive her instructor of the year award live on stage.
