Close Shave

For some African-American men, pseudofolliculitis barbae, a dermatological condition common among men with thick and curly facial hair, can make shaving an irritating daily ritual causing rashes, ingrown hairs, bleeding and scarring.

Recently, shaving also became the cause of controversy in Houston, Texas, when four African-American officers filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the city claiming the Houston Police Department's ban on beards was discriminatory. The officers don't want to shave and suffer but neither do they want to lose their jobs.

Woody's Quality Grooming, a men's grooming line, heard about the controversy and sent in their own backup.

"We are not taking sides, here, "explains Woody's Founder and Brand Manager, Barry Shaich. "We just know we have a product that could help smooth out the situation, so to speak, and we wanted to help."

Shaich sent the officers bottles of new Woody's Soothing Gel & Bump Treatment, a gentle post-shave formula that can prevent infection and ease the pain of razor burn, while working to prevent shave bumps and ingrown hairs. Featuring a unique blend of natural and naturally derived ingredients, it is specially formulated with salicylic acid to help unclog pores, heal irritated skin and prevent scarring.
