About the Company

Redken Laboratories, founded in 1960, introduced the idea of protein reconditioning and created products that were able to condition hair internally and for the long-term rather than solely camou age damage. Redken soon began to develop patented protein technologies and now holds more than 60 global patents on products and ingredients. In 1993, L’Oréal purchased Redken, and now its headquarters are on 5th Avenue in New York City. Today, Redken is a global leader in professional haircare products and services.

Mission & Message
A unique mix of fashion, innovation and inspiration, Redken creates the buzz, sets the pace and establishes what’s new, what’s hot and what’s next in hair.

When and why did Redken get involved in hair thinning?
Fifty percent of adults (both men and women) experience thinning, and these people are actively seeking products to help them with this problem. It is a very sensitive topic, and a very difficult conversation for stylists to start with clients. We wanted to make sure we were providing an easy solution for the large group of people faced with this problem, and help our stylists start this conversation with the client in the chair.

What is Redken’s research and product development background?
Since our inception in 1960, Redken’s mission has been to formulate superior hair and skincare products based on the scientific approach to beauty. Today, the company holds more than 60 global patents on products and ingredients. Our research and development team consists of 30 cosmetic chemists, 20 of whom are chemists and licensed salon professionals who develop and test innovative products in the laboratory.
