Sustainable Beauty
Tyler Mason Salon Spa
Indianapolis, Indiana
Owned by: Tammie Baker

Since 2001, Davines has hosted Sustainable Beauty Week in an effort to rally salons toward a more eco-friendly industry and to raise money for the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation. This year, the crew at Tyler Mason jumped on board and expanded their efforts to a Sustainable Beauty Month for April by pledging to raise $400 for the foundation, reduce the salon’s own waste by 10 percent and educate clients and staff on eco-friendly choices.

“We created a display that showcased Davines products with educational signage that described the ways the company is making a difference, including that their product containers are food-grade and are perfect for storing dry goods and sauces,” says Baker. The salon pledged 2 percent of Davines’ April sales to the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation and raffled off a Sustainable Beauty Basket, exceeding their contribution goal. The salon also made eco-positive, lasting changes in its practices to cut back on things like foil and color waste, energy usage, and paper.
On Earth Day, the entire salon participated in earth-friendly activities including landscaping, planting a tree, carpooling to work and repurposing empty Davines containers for fun and unique new uses, such as birdfeeders.
