Snowpocalypse 2011: How Salons Were Impacted
No doubt you read about the intense blizzard that hit the Midwest last week, dubbed Snow-pocalypse or Snow-mageddon—hopefully, though, you weren't around to experience the devastating amount of snow dumped on us—plus the combination of closed/unplowed roads, thundersnow!, power outages, abandoned cars, frozen pipes, dangerous temperatures and strong winds... it was a recipe for disaster.
Watch it unfold!

The MODERN SALON offices closed, and all the editors worked remotely to keep off the roads. But how did your businesses do? We asked our Facebook fans, here's what you had to say:

Robin Dell'Antonia: I've worked for my salon for 9 years and this is the FIRST time we've been closed!!!!! We closed for 2 days.

Shelley McGinnis Pace: We are still stuck in Palm Desert Resort for Matrix Imagination—we are having to reschedule all of our appointments until we can get home to Tennessee.

Kandice Samuels: We have been stuck at home for 3 days now....I can't stand it any longer.

Lorrene Stuchl Conino: Our mall was closed Wednesday, but they did a great job clearing mounds of snow so we can all be open today! Phones are busy with all teachers and teens who are off today. For every person who did not want to be out in the snow, someone else is making the most of a day off.

Aeleise Mitchell: The salon is closed and I'm stuck on an unplowed street in Chicago for the 2nd day. So ready to get in some hair!

Lawren Clapp-Cherniski: Our salon never closes, late openings, early closings but, never closing!! Some clients always have a hair "emergency" and will brave the terrible New England weather for hair or spa services!!

Kimberly Hudson-Kelly: East Texas - pipes froze Wednesday!

Gissela Alvarez: We are not in the USA but here in Mty, Mex sure is freeezing !!! We were open yesterday and no clients.

Laura Kinser: Being closed for 2 days really hurt us! Plus there was no one to answer the phone so now we are slow today!

Rolf Waller: Joyfully we closed Rolfsalon yesterday and I had a peaceful day with my wife.

Nicole Nichols: Wish we would close, we stayed open through the bad and sat there for hours with NO clients and NO money :/ wish we would close so I could get housework done, no one goes out in this. If we were making money we wouldn't care. For booking future apts. call forwarding works wonders when unable to be there :) best wishes for more moolah everyone!

Karen Graner Digrolamo: Sunny and 80 degrees here in FLA....sorry I just had to go there...

Munem Capricio-Salon: We closed yesterday, and too many no shows/cancellations due to clean ups.

Dona Luna: Wow, I feel bad for the salons impacted by this storm, this is a no win situation. Up here in Anchorage, Alaska the weather has been great! All of you snow storm survivors stay safe & make lots of $$$$ when you can.

Kerry Mcdonald-Richard: Amesbury Mass... We closed all day Wed. Opened up Thurs. and we were BUSY, but our roof has sprouted leaks everywhere. Should be busy Fri too, they've closed schools, too much weight on the roofs.

Penny Strall: Even though I'm a couple hours away from there the mounds of snow detour folks from coming in, as it makes it hard to get back into traffic especially since the construction wasn't finished during the summer...so add the orange barrels.
