Smooth Lock, Redken's new semi-permanent in salon service and at home regimen, was launched to the consumer and trade press yesterday. The event was held at the Cutler Salon on 57th Street in NYC. Rodney Cutler, Redken Brand Ambassador and owner of the Cutler Salons, led the event introducing the product line and offering the service to the 25 plus editors who attended any of the five sessions.

"Smooth Lock features a Heat Fuse Complex that is heat activated and forms a protective barrier for continued protection and smoothness,"  Rodney Cutler told me before the other editors arrived for my session. "This complex delivers a thermal active polymer that forms a humidy-resistant barrious to retain internal moisture and lock out frizz. There is also almond oil to condition and coat the surface of the hair for a smooth finish and shine."

The 2 step semi-permanent in-salon service is designed to last up to 10 shampoos and is supported with five products in the at-home maintenance line: Smooth Lock Shampoo, Smooth Lock Conditioner, Butter Silk Intensive rinse-out treatment, Stay Sleek leave-in cream and Heat Glide leave-in protective smoother. All are forumlated with the Heat Fuse Complex and Interlock Protein Network, technology designed to penetrate the cortex to strengthen and reinforce hair for improved manageability.

I decided to test the service on the strands below the occipital so that I could actually see how effective it is on hair that is already frizz-free and smooth. I must say, those strands are silkier and I did love the service. Smooth Lock has a great scent and the Cutler team is quite talented in the shampoo/massage/product application area.

The other editors in my crowd who do sport some frizz and unruly curl were beyond thrilled. Can't wait to see their reviews! For me, it's two thumbs up.
