Joico International Artistic Director Damien Carney has found a great way to refine a hairline. "The best way to master that tricky area behind the ear is to have the client twist the head slightly and tilt to the opposite side to allow easier access behind the ear. Typically its difficult to get at that part of the head when doing scissor over comb. This makes all the difference."

Carney points out that having the client move is always a best practice. "Always move the head of the client rather than contorting yourself," he says. "In the long run you will get a polished hairline, the hair will grow out better, your work will look its best and your hair will be the hero. It should be easy.  You shouldn't have to pivot yourself or go on your tippy toes.  Really utilize your hydrolic chair and mirrors. It's all about the detail, both in the cut and how you get there."
