THE EVENT: ARTIST SESSION, Spring 2013, NYC

THE DETAILS:  Modern Salon Media’s photo  workshop “ARTIST SESSION” hosted 12 salon professionals (and several assistants and observers) to an exclusive seminar and photoshoot designed to guide hairstylists to up their skills and learn how to get published. The 2 day event included a full day of speakers including Dean Banowetz (who demonstrated the INSTYLER IQ), Sacha Quarles (who chatted about celebrity and film hair), Helen Oppenheim (who shared HOW TO get published internationally)and Chris Rosario (who offered step by step advice on applying Hairdreams extensions).

THE SHOOT: The photosession on day 2 is the highlight of ARTIST SESSION. After selecting a model (from a casting of 88 top NY models) each artist spent a full day styling on and off set. The Modern crew, consisting of award winning make up artist David Maderich, superstar fashionstylist Rod Novoa and celebrity nail artist Maisie Dunbar, added the finishing touches to each model who was then placed on the set of famed photographer Roberto Ligresti. The final images will be shown over the next several months.

THE GOODY BAG: The goody bag for this session was the best ever, valued at more than $1400. Included in the bag for Spring 2013: Andis Charm and Maven Clippers, BabylissPro Nano Titanium 1” Marcel Curling Iron, a Brushopolis teasing brush, Centrix KOI shears, the INStyler IQ, the Keratin Complex “5 in 1” Curling System, a Paul Mitchell Express Ion Dry blow dryer and Bamboo Brush, a Sebastian micro crimper and the Solano Sleek Heat, one inch Flat iron.

QUOTED: The follow up mail from attendees is always a highlight for ARTIST SESSION founder Maggie Mulhern: “The experience was sooooo exciting,” say first timer Theresa Przybyla. “ARTIST SESSION encompassed so much for me. I don't know how it could have been better from the organization, to the model selection, to the speakers. I am so inspired and learned an incredible amount in 2 days!” Michael Gregg, attending for the third time, adds: “Where to begin with all the great opportunities and wisdom that ARTIST SESSION has given me! As a result, I have been published internationally and been featured in beauty industry blogs spotlighting my artistry to give me higher visibility as a Premier Educator with Paul Mitchell. ARTIST SESSION has really helped me refine my subjective eye to the Art of what we do with hair. Just being able to form lasting bonds with the amazing guests and other stylists for constructive feedback and Industry support is worth the experience alone! I now know how to contact and properly get my work out there. The workshop is an invaluable experience that continues to inspire,  has given amazing information to be passed on and has forever changed my artistry.”

THE NEXT ONE: The dates for the fall 2013 ARTIST SESSION have been announced: October 14 and 15. For more information, contact Joyce Alverio, jalverio@vancepublishing.com or 1-800-621-2845
