Model choice is easily the most important element for a successful photoshoot. When casting, seasoned session artists know to look at the face of a model, not her hair. Beth Minardi and Mark Garrison met with almost 20 models for this MODERN photoshoot, but each knew immediately upon meeting her that model Anastasia was their girl.
“It was her fabulous bone structure that caught my eye,” Minardi says. “Her complexion, eyes, and lips, her great cheekbones—what can I say?”
Although Minardi acknowledged that it was all about her face, she quickly adds, “It didn’t hurt that she had wonderful, healthy hair with great, soft natural wave. I knew her hair would take color well.”
Garrison agreed that Anastasia was “number one” from the moment she walked in to his NYC salon.
“Although there were so many models to choose from, Anastasia is captivating and stopped us in our tracks,” he says. “Her natural beauty is rare. She radiated a sensuality that I knew had to be the essence of the model we had to have for this shoot with MODERN.”
For Minardi, it was a particularly perfect day. The session was held just two days before her birthday, so the entire crew had a chance to celebrate. Everyone grabbed a slice of the black and white layered cake ordered in her honor. Adding “icing to the cake,” Anastasia made it an even more wonderful day for Minardi and team: “I really love my hair,” she said; magical words to any session artist. “Thank you for making it so pretty.”
