Texture Clash

Stacie Snyder, an artist at Bombshell Salon in Ellicott City, Maryland, created an elegant silhouette by blending fingerwaves with an “unfinished” back. “It’s a great way to celebrate two textures in one look,” she says.

Lesson learned at Artist Session: “Even though you want a model with gorgeous hair, it’s easier to add than to take away. This model had thick hair, and I had to ‘hide’ hair in this finish.”

Shameless Waves

As he put the finishing touches on his model, artist Randy Schull said, “The inspiration for today’s look is modern Hollywood glam.” The master stylist from the Robert Allen Salon in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, added that “This shape is classic and chic and would look perfect on any red carpet.” Schull used the Keratin Complex 5-in-1 Curling System in one-inch vertical sections, alternating directions and switching from large in the front to a medium in the back. “My goal was to give a beautiful shape with nice, deep, rich waves.”

Lesson learned at Artist Session: “Enter every competition you can. I won a trip to Artist Session through Keratin Complex’s Capture Your Color Potential competition.”

Bob Illusion

Elegance comes in all shapes, and this textured faux bob created by Joanne Fanelli-Babiarz and assisted by Brittany Ciacciarelli was designed using homemade foil curlers to create a spiral curl on small sections, and a larger Marcel iron on thicker sections. "I selected this model because I knew she could carry this look," says Fanelli-Babiarz, who owns Joanne Fanelli Salon in Utica, New York, of the first model to arrive at the casting. "I love how she is very doll-like."

Lesson learned at Artist Session: "Look through the model's portfolio to see if she can carry off your look."

Elegant Bombshell

Jennifer Dozier Horter, owner of Bombshell in Ellicott City, Maryland, wanted to create a sleek look, but not so simple. “I am inspired by old-world glamour and, for this look, I chose to go to the late ’50s, early ’60s and pay homage to Sofia Lauren.” To keep everything voluptuous and beautiful, Horter built volume at the crown with her new secret weapon: Straight Pin Studio Essentials Kit by Lucie Doughty. “It is one of my favorite tools for red-carpet finishes. There are many ways to use the contents, but I am using the pre-made pieces as a filler to create incredible height at the crown.”

Lesson learned at Artist Session: “When you do photo work, the look must be a bit bigger than in real life. The camera and set make everything look smaller.”
