In the most recent Aveda presentation at the Premiere Orlando 2014, Ian Michael Black, Aveda global artisitc director of hair color, took to the stage as part of the Aveda Global Artistic Team presentation of Culture Clash Spring/Summer 2014, the collision of gritty and glamorous-tribal folkloric and futuristic looks.

For summer color trends, Black says, “Pastel hair has been popular for quite some time, and the trend continues through summer. This season pastels are pumped up to give them more vibrancy and make them more of a statement, whereas in seasons past pastels have been worked all over the head. These new 'hyper pastels' are worked more in pieces. The color palette for this summer is mixing warm with cool to create a more tie-dyed effect."

Black continues with more summer color ideas: "The other big trend for summer is the strong return of the red head. With designers such as Marc Jacobs and Chanel featuring red-haired models in their advertisements this season, it was only a matter of time before we started seeing this copied on the street. From soft coppers to the most vibrant reds, this season’s hair color is all about making a statement and having fun with your hair color.”

Additional trends:

1. Multidimensional red: “Even the most vibrant red needs layers of dimension," Black says. "The subtle interior shadows can lie dormant when styled up of take center stage when worn down.”

 2. Pastel blue bob: “Blue hair is a courageous, head-turning expression of individuality. I made the tones in bob transition from deep to pastel blue for an ultra-chic approach to this vibrant hue.”
3. Textured color blocking:
“Coloring textured hair is a study in adding dimension and enhancing natural curl patterns. Color blocking perfectly polishes and refines textured curls.”
