The groundbreaking 2014 research conducted by MODERN SALON through the Healthy Hairdresser initiative is featured in the City of Hope (COH) Journal digital edition issued as part of COH’s long-time partnership with the beauty industry and sponsorship of the industry’s annual Spirit of Life event. The results from this research were spotlighted during the Spirit of Life Award Gala held in Las Vegas held July 12, 2014, to honor this year’s Spirit of Life Award winner Harlan Kirschner of the The Kirschner Group. The COH Journal includes a selection of photos from the event.

City of Hope Journal Reports on Healthy Hairdresser Research

In setting benchmarks and helping to identify salon professionals’ health problems and concerns, the research tapped into the event’s theme, “Celebrating Cures.” Through reader-friendly graphs and charts, the article in the COH Journal delivers highlights from the research data ranging from respondents’ smoking and exercising habits to a ranking of topics they would like to see covered in Healthy Hairdresser articles.

Issues surrounding weight, nutrition and fitness topped the list of respondents' current health concerns, followed by back and neck problems and sore feet and legs. While 30% of respondents said they were currently happy with their health, almost all of the rest of the respondents indicated that they would like to be healthier and either currently are making changes to improve or plan to make changes in the future; only 1% said they would like to be healthier but do not intend to make changes.
