Colored ribbons have become an international symbol for support—be it for troops, awareness, fighting disease and more. The lavender ribbon encompasses the battles of many by representing all types of cancer and the fight that so many endure to beat the sickness.

Love Out Lavender is a program founded by stylist Todd Kanean artistic educator for Matrixthat encourages beauty and fashion professionals to create inspiring images in order to raise funds to conquer cancer through sponsorship, creative events and an annual calendar.

3 Steps to Get Involved

  1. Sponsor it. World Cancer Day is February 4—log on to loveoutlavender.org and choose a ribbon to inspire your concept. You can bring awareness to the form of cancer you choose however you want, be it a message of faith, hope, courage, love, prevention, survival or even frustration. With your sponsorship, you’re trying to move people to donate.
  2. Create it. Tap into your community of local artists, beauty schools, boutiques and designers to share their stories and passion for a photo shoot, your Love Out Lavender event. You’re encouraged to create a 60-second video during the event to share via social media.
  3. Promote it. Change your Facebook picture to the Love Out Lavender logo, encourage your friends and family to do the same, and share your image across all of your social media platforms.
    The campaign
closes June 1, National Cancer Survivor’s Day. At that time, top-grossing images will be featured in the November 2015 issue of MODERN SALON to commemorate National Cancer Caregivers month. The images will also be published in the annual Love Out Lavender calendar for the upcoming year.
