Douglas J. Sherman (@jshermansalon) of the Sola Salons Buckhead, Atlanta, Georgia, says he absolutely loves "what I do and the challenges each client brings me."

Well, he has the opportunity to meet that challenge on a regular basis with this client "who loves to change her color every appointment," Sherman says. "On her last service, we lightened her up, so I balayaged her using 30 volume and lightner and based with a level 5N."

How-to: Dark cherry cola

FORMULA: Keune Semi Color. Base: 1(black) with semicolor activator. On the darker pieces pull through with 4.3 with semicolor activator. On her blonder pieces equal parts 6.53 and 6.38 w/semicolor activator.

"I applied the color by sectioning her hair into four quads," Sherman says. "Taking diagonal back sections (following my previous balayage placement I did on her last time) starting with the 1 (black) at the root area and then melting either the 4.3 or 6.53/6.38 combo depending on section. I used Framar International Foil It foils to isolate the sections. The total timing from start to finish was 2.5 hours (including her style.) I styled her using Kenra Platinum Blow Dry Spray. After drying with a round brush I used the One Styling Verge wand and L'Oreal Professionnel Infinium #3 to curl her hair. The hair was finished by raking my fingers and using Keune Brilliant Gloss Spray."
