Kesley Reynolds (@khbkesley), an independent stylist in Salt Lakes City, UT, says,  "This client of mine started out with a botched ombre and we have been working on getting her box color out on the top but her ends are so porous they didn't want to hold any toners and were dry and split.  She came to me and said I want to cut off my hair and go darker. I said YES!"

Here she shares the HOW TO:

STEP 1: Begin with an undercut and some textured layers for movement and to remove weight.

STEP 2: Apply a full head of thick balayage lowlights with Aloxxi 5N & 10 volume. Process for 30 minutes. Rinse.

STEP 3: Tone the remaining light pieces with a cocktail of Aloxxi 5n and Matrix purple shampoo for about 3 minutes to darken and add depth.

STEP 4: Style using Sexy Hair styling products and my GHD flat iron turning each curl the opposite direction from the opposite.
