MTV’s Video Music Awards are synonymous with celebrities showing off their wildest, most daring looks of the award show circuit, and this year’s was no different. But among some craziness, plenty of stars’ style, makeup and, of course, hair shined.

Supermodel Gigi Hadid stunned as usual. Her slicked-back hair framed her face to showcase her natural-looking dewy glow, nude lips and minimal eye makeup. Stylist Jennifer Yepez of ghd shares how she created Hadid's glamourous, yet effortless-looking hair:

STEP 1: "I dried Gigi’s hair using the ghd air hairdryer and ghd ceramic vented radial brush size 3. I started by blowing Gigi’s hair, beginning from the nape of her neck and working towards the front."
STEP 2: "Once I got to the section surrounding her ears, I applied moose and thickening spray near roots and teased the hair to create a glamorous look straight from the 70s."
STEP 3: "The secret to her sleek, slicked back look was the new ghd platinum styler, that straightened the hair with, styling at the optimal temperature of 365 degrees which ensures styles last longer and gives added shine.”

It Brit Rita Ora's sleek, platinum style was adorned by a crown of six small ponies that interconnected in back. Matrix's Chris Appleton styled Ora's hair, taking inspiration from the dress she wore.

"For this look, I was inspired by the paneling on her dress," Appleton said. "I wanted to bring that detailing into her hair to create an overall look that was cohesive. I took Rita's color back to platinum because I feel that it...makes an iconic statement."

Appleton shares his step-by-step process of styling Ora's VMA look:

STEP 1: "Since Rita’s hair has a great natural curly hair texture, I prepped the hair with Biolage Cleansing Conditioner Anti Frizz Leave-in Treatment."

STEP 2: "I blowdried the hair, using a combination of Style Link Smooth Setter Smoothing Cream and Style Link Turbo Dryer. We blowdried her hair with a flat brush to give it a smooth, sleek look."

STEP 3: "I divided her hair into clean sections with Style Link Shape Switcher, tying off each section."

STEP 4: "I created six ponytails that are interconnected, and applied Style Link Heat Buffer, before flat ironing out her look."

STEP 5: "We finished it off with some spritzes of Style Link Style Fixer to fix it off to ensure that the look stayed put all night. I stayed away from using anything volumizing, or anything with too much of a dry texture, as I wanted to keep the look very smooth and sleek!"

Songstress and VMA Performer Tori Kelly is known for her beautiful naturally curly hair. Stylist Nikki Providence used Matrix products to give Kelly's hair a healthy look that supported her hair's natural texutre.

STEP 1: "Biolage Cleansing Conditioner is great to prep hair like Tori’s because it cleans the hair without stripping its natural oils," Providence said.
STEP 2: "When her hair was wet, I applied Style Link Volume Builder at the roots."
STEP 3: "Next, spread a generous amount of Style Link Smooth Setter with a few drops of Style Link Volume Booster at the roots throughout mid lengths making sure to distribute it evenly through the ends."
STEP 4: "Part the hair deeply on one side. Take 2-inch sections of hair and twist them into ropes. Diffuse gently without disturbing the twists, until the hair is completely dry."
STEP 5: "Using your hands, shake the hair out at the roots to boost volume and separate the curls slightly. If any areas need a boost, now is the time to use a medium sized curling iron to touch up waves. Make sure to keep the natural movement in the hair, don't make every section uniform!"
STEP 6: "At the roots, use Style Link Height Riser, and finish with Style Link Volume Fixer to keep the volume through red carpet and performance!"

For Demi Lovato's sleek, I-woke-up-like-this locks, stylist Clyde Haygood created wet-looking style using products form Uberliss

“We chose a sleek, slicked back look to style Demi’s hair for the VMAs. The chic style looked sharp against her creative Nicolas Jebran dress,” said Haygood. “Essentially we wanted to take her look from the "Cool For The Summer" video and carry that to the red carpet. And we had the perfect product to do that.”

STEP 1: Start with freshly blowdried hair.

STEP 2: Drench the dried hair with the Uberliss RituOil from roots to ends, to create a wet and shiny look.

STEP 3: Comb back the hair to evenly distribute the Uberliss RituOil and to prepare for straightening.

STEP 4: Use the Uberliss Ultra Titanium Pro Flat Iron on 1-inch sections to straighten the hair completely.

STEP 5: Add more Uberliss RituOil to make the look as sleek as possible.

For Vanessa Hudgens' bohemian braided hair, PRAVANA's Global Creative Advisor, braid and bridal hair expert Sherri Jessee suggests when recreating Vanessa’s look, keep in mind that “braids are always best when you begin with hair that has lots of texture."

STEP 1: Begin by distributing an egg-sized amount of NEVO Full Volume Volumizing Mousse through damp hair. Rough dry the hair, squeezing as you dry. Do not brush hair.
STEP 2: Wrap random sections of hair around a 1 1/4" curling wand, alternating directions.
STEP 3: Create a Dutch braid (start with three sections of hair, braid underneath one another instead of over), framing the face. Braid until you reach the ends, securing with a clear elastic band.
STEP 4: Wrap the tail end of the braid around the head like a crown and tuck the ends beneath the base of the braid in the front hairline. Pin to secure.
STEP 5: Accessorize with small jeweled flowers for a touch of glam.
