First Person

Wella North America Education Creative Director Carole Protat discusses the company’s commitment to innovation and the hairdresser.

Brand Heritage

Wella has been at the heart of hairdressing since its inception in 1880, passionately shaping the salon professional industry through ground-breaking innovation, creative inspiration, business-building programs, expert education and close salon partnerships. We are passionate about hair. Everything we do is inspired by our love of hairdressing and innovation. For more than 130 years, Wella has been delivering innovations and services that enable hairdressers’ creativity.

Identifying and inspiring trends

Wella Professionals is the industry pioneer of global trend intelligence. To showcase this unrelenting passion for excellence, we hold our annual TrendVision Awards competition, identifying the most inspiring, talented and cutting-edge trend innovators who are the pulse of today’s hair creativity. The trends we develop become more than cutting-edge fashion—they embrace all aspects of art and culture from architecture, music and design.

“Our innovation ranges from product formulation, package design and supply systems to consumer communications, world-class industry education and business models for salon owners. We invest more in innovation than any other company in our industry.” —CAROLE PROTAT

Formulation for Success

Our leveling system spreads from level 2 (darkest brown) to 10 (lightest blonde) and we are using an international numbering system for tones spanning from 0 to 9, defining the degree of warmth or coolness of a shade. Our color lines are also grouped in tonal families to facilitate the navigation and choosing the right shade for clients. Special blondes (Level 12) round up the shade palette for shimmering, blonde effects and Special Mix shades (Pure Mix Tones) expand tonal creativity.
