How-To: Low-Maintenance Hair-Painting

It's no secret that endlessly customizable hair-painting has become one of the most-requested color techniques at salons in 2015. The natural-looking touches of color is a style that many clients gravitate toward.

"Hair painting is taking over," says TeriAnn Eyester, stylist at Salon Nouveau in Bellmore, NY. "With everyone's busy schedules, it is becoming more and more difficult to get to the salon every four weeks, so guests are now looking for more low-maintenance color.”

Eyester's client is a full-time student with a full-time job, so time is not always on her side for making return visits to the salon. Eyester had a thorough consultation with her client, and they elected to subtly brighten her brunette locks with carefully placed, hand-painted highlights. This would give her the change she was seeking and a non-aggressive grow out as well.

Formula B: 15 mL 20 volume Goldwell Silk Lift conditioning cream developer + half scoop Goldwell Silk Lift high performance lightener

STEP 1: Section hair into four quadrants.

STEP 2: Starting at the nape, take small weaves using Formula A and perform a slight tease at the root.

STEP 3: Paint a minimum of one inch off the scalp and back-brush using a dry brush to create a blended look.

STEP 4: Continue up the head, taking two-inch sections between paintings.

STEP 5: Leave the crown out; this allows for the natural color to fall on top.

STEP 6: Using Formula B, continue painting regimen in two front sections.

STEP 7: Paint closer together in face-frame area, with only half-inch sections between paintings to allow for more brightness around the face.

STEP 8: Process 20 minutes.

STEP 9: Shampoo twice with Goldwell Dualsenses Color Fade Stop shampoo and towel-dry thoroughly.

STEP 10: Apply Formula C throughout entire head.

STEP 11: Process 20 minutes, then rinse and condition using Goldwell Dualsenses Color Fade Stop conditioner.
