Eva Scrivo is not known as the “Princess Of Balayage” for nothing. She has been the darling of the society set for years and has been adding gorgeous color and punches of lights with her signature balayage on her countless number of devoted clients that give her free rein with their color and style. Several major brands have tapped Scrivo to teach balayage and haircolor formulation and technique to their own educators and color insiders.

She has been mentoring her staff at her 2 NYC salons for years, so when she announced in 2014 that she was going to share her knowledge to other salon pros through her own academy, it came as surprisingly wonderful news to colorists worldwide.

For years Scrivo kept her balayage secrets closely guarded, but decided she had to share after seeing the struggles of fellow artists.  “I created this academy to address the many emails and phone calls I have received from stylists who are hungry for quality and practical education,” says Scrivo. Attendees learn about haircolor theory, trend, formulation and technique, as well as the basics like application, products and tools, all in an effort to achieve bright, clear blondes without foils.

The one day classes are held at her brand new second floor space in the Flat Iron district of NYC, one of the hottest areas of NY chock full of top salons, trendy restaurants and chic boutiques. Locals are not surprised to see neighbor Giselle Bundchen playing with her children in the nearby park, or Sara Jessica Parker and Jennifer Lopez running in and out of the local shops.

When asked what should students expect to receive from attending, Scrivo says

“My goal is to raise the bar for this industry by empowering hair colorists and stylists from across the country and beyond with the skill and business acumen to consistently create the quality of work in which they can take pride, while building a thriving business and a commensurate career. By learning my foil-free, seamless color techniques and insight on the business of hair color, artists will not only improve skill, but will expand creative range and income.”

One of the bonuses of participation in the academy is becoming a member of the Eva Scrivo network. “I get frequent requests from customers across the nation for referrals to salons and stylists who are trained in our proprietary techniques. We have created the first Balayage Network where clients can use the academy as a resource to find top colorists in their area. These students have successfully completed at least 3 balayage classes in my academy and have received personalized instruction from myself, as well as from our other academy educators, and exhibited a dedication to their craft and level of skill that makes me proud to recommend them.”

Scrivo keeps classes small with a maximum of 18 students, and the teacher to student ratio high at 1 to 4. “I am personally at the helm of each class,” says Scrivo, “supported by my team of skilled educators who have been with my company for years, teaching my own staff. The intimate size of our classes allow me to tailor our education to each students’ individual needs and skill set so no two classes are exactly the same.”

At the end of each course, participants receive a certificate of completion that can displayed in the salon. But more importantly, according to attendee Derek McClellan of Pure Hair Design in Boston, MA, who has attended multiple classes, “What I’ve learned most of all from all of these classes with Eva is a real respect for the craft. I was thoroughly inspired and motivated!”
