Amy McManus (@Camouflageandbalayage), owner of Trinity Salon in Fitchburg Mass., says “My guest has been a client of mine for 5 years and we've been doing her hair close to the natural strawberry blonde she had as a teenager. She got excited after seeing her hair get featured on Modern Salon's Instagram (done by me) and decided that she was going to let me play a bit. We let her previous color fade out.”

Here McManus shares the details for this enhancement:

Step 1: Apply a full head of Balayage highlights using Oligo Blacklight Balayage Clay Lightener with Olaplex and 40 volume developer (“to brighten up her hair in order to take the metallic colors from Joico Intensity we picked out during our consultation and make them pop.”) Process for 45 minutes.

Step 2: To the regrowth apply Paul Mitchell Color XG 7C 8C 8N 8WB with 20 volume developer.

Step 3: Pull through 3 different metallic colors from Joico Intensity: Bronze, Violet and Mauve.  Process according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 4: Rinse with cool water and apply Joico Cuticle Sealer for 5 minutes followed by Paul Mitchell The Detangler.

“After trimming her hair, I applied Oligo Primer, Blow Dry Mist and Styling Creme and blew out with Paul Mitchell XL Neuro round brushes and a Dyson blow dryer. I sprayed Paul Mitchell's Hot Off the Press thermal protecting spray and Paul Mitchell Hold Me Tight Spray to prepare for curling her hair with Hot Tools 1 1/4" Marcel iron.”
