Pantone's 2017 Color of the Year is Greenery, a vibrant yellow-green, and according to Pantone, the color is meant to celebrate new beginnings and the desire to rejuvenate and revitalize.

Green symbolizes life, energy, ambition, harmony, financial success and more, an ethereal and inspiring outlook for the year ahead.

Dare to experiment with shades of nature’s neutral color—from bright key lime to toned-down sage—in clients’ beauty looks. Whether it be a twist on a smokey eye, blend of bold hair color, emerald manicure or swipe of jade eyeliner, green can give an unexpected pop to a guest’s look who typically stays within a range of neutral hues.

James Vincent, director of artistry and education for The Makeup Show, suggests trying green shadow in the crease for a subtle depth of color to accentuate blue, hazel or brown eyes. Also try adding a touch of green to the tips of lashes after applying black mascara. Or, he says, add a pop of green to the inner corner of a traditional black liner on a kitten or cat eye.

“Green is a gorgeous addition to any eyeshadow application,” Vincent says. “Whether you want to bring attention to a soft liner look or add interest to a smokey eye, the cool complement of green tonearm tones creates a look that adds soft drama. Try pairing these Green eye looks with a red lip and watch how the complementary color combination adds wow.”

For guests ready to transition from winter to spring, Anne Skubis, makeup artist and director of marketing, Aveda Institutes, created a look that adds a dose of greenery to their face beat using Aveda cosmetics and skin care products.

GET THE LOOK:

STEP 1: Skin prep is the most important process for any makeup application. Skubis utilized the new Tulasara Wedding Masque and Wedding Masque Eye under model Gracie’s makeup to even skin tone and boost radiance. "This is easily my favorite Aveda product of all time," Skubis says. "I have used it a handful of times since it launched in January. I receive so many compliments on my skin the next day."

STEP 2: For a flawless complexion, Skubis used Aveda Inner Light Mineral Tinted Moisture applied with a Flax-sticks blush brush and Inner Light concealer where needed. 

STEP 3: Next, she used Inner Light Face Accent in Peach Lights on the cheeks and temples for a soft, bronzed glow. Then, she used Inner Light Face Accent in Apricot Whisper on the apples of the cheeks, and to highlight, she used Petal Essence Single Eye Color in Lemon Spice on the highs of the cheek bones, down the center of the nose, and on the cupid’s bow.

STEP 4: For this eye look, specifically, Skubis used multiple shades of green to create dimension. Starting with Petal Essence Eye Definer in Gold Gypsum, she highlighted the inner corners and set with Petal Essence Eye Color Single in Illumination. Next, she used Petal Essence Eye Definer in Cacao on top and bottom lash lines, diffusing it with a Flax-sticks Medium Eye Color brush. “It is crucial to blend out the creamy liner to the perfect smokiness before setting it with shadow,” she says.

STEP 5: For the dimensional green shadow, Skubis started with the darkest color from the Sweet Grass Eye Color Trio, pressing it into the Cacao liner on top and bottom and softening the edges. Next, she used the medium color from Sweet Grass above the dark color and fade up past the contour. With a disposable eye shadow sponge applicator, she pressed in the beautiful bright green from Aqua Pear Eye Color Trio to the center of the eye lid. Skubis says when viewed from different angles, the multiple colors shift from the dark brown to the bright metallic green. Top it off by curling lashes and adding a generous coat of Moss-cara in Black Forest.

STEP 6: For the brows, Skubis started by brushing them up and into place with the spooly end of the Flax-Sticks Brow and Lash Brush. She then flipped the brush over and filled where needed with Gobi Sands Eye Color Trio.

STEP 7: For Gracie's lips, Skubis used the Colorless Lip Liner to plump and moisturize. Next, she used Uruku Lip Pigment in Orellana Sun pressed in with a Flax-Sticks Medium Eye Color Brush. She finished with Nourish-Mint Rehydrating Lip Glaze in Mango Juice.
