Eva Scrivo, a balayage master and educator, has been performing beautiful color designs using balayage since picking up her brush in beauty school. "Since the Balayage trend has taken over the beauty world, I prefer to classify it as a technique," says Scrivo, owner of the Eva Scrivo Salons and Academy in NYC.  "Considering that its heritage pre-dates foils, this art form is truly a classic highlighting method that has been around for decades. The science of lightening hair is just as complex as color theory itself. 'Blond Theory' teaches us to control the natural warmth of hair, lift it to the desired level without breakage, and ultimately achieve the desired overall tone."

Here Scrivo shares her 3 'PLATINUM' RULES to successful balayage:

1. Keep it consistent. Your lightener must be creamy. Think yogurt.

2. Location, location, location! The placement of the highlights is one of the most important decisions you will make. You can create an overall pale blond color with fine sections or the most natural beachy tones and everything in between!

3. Skip the heat. When balayage is correctly executed, you don't even need it. In fact, it can ruin the whole thing.

Scrivo holds classes in her salon in the Flat Iron district on 5th Avenue in NYC. Each course include a deep dive into balayage and is good for all levels from novice to expert. The next class - Balayage Blondes - will be held March 20, 2017.
