MAKEOVER: Gentle Repair For Broken Blonde

Crista Lydia Chavez (@beautybycristachavez), a colorist at Platinum Hair Salon, Caldwell, Idaho, says her over-processed client "had been doing her hair at home, overlapping lightener each process. There was a lot of breakage was at the ends and near the face frame."

Here Chavez shares the details for this correction:

Starting levels: 1 inch of level 4 for base area. Levels 7 and 8 on Mid strands and some level 10 from mid-strands to ends.

Step 1: Apply Matrix Light Master with 20 volume at base and Light Master with 30 volume and Olaplex No. 1 at mid strands. Process for 40 minutes, lifting to an even level 10.

Step 2: Shampoo with Matrix sleek, rinse and towel dry. Blow dry to remove excess water.

Step 3: Apply Kenra Violet Pearl Rapid 5-minute toner first to the ends, working up to mid strands. Process for 3 minutes and then apply toner to the base. Apply for an additional 3 minutes. Rinse.

Step 4: Clarify with Matrix Pro Solutionist at the base to remove remaining violet hue. Process for 2 minutes and then rinse.

Step 5: Apply Olaplex No. 2 for 10 minutes and rinse. Deep condition with Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Wild Ginger for 15 minutes under heat.

Step 6: Remove 2 inches off length and cut 90-degree layers for fullness and volume. Round brush dry for a polished voluminous look.
