Karmah Suleiman (@BeautybyKarmah) of Flawless Beauty Salon, Cleveland, Ohio, says "My client and I had met for a consultation weeks before actually doing her hair. Unfortunately, because of the rush of an event she had coming up, she decided to go elsewhere to get a purple ombre done, which didn't go well. She was unhappy with the results, and covered her hair with a dark level 3/4 dye. Frustrated, and still unhappy she came back for an appointment with me. Due to the dark dye and demarcation, I now had to do a color correction in order to create the color melt/ombre she desired."

The entire process took roughly about 7 hours total. "My client has extremely thick, naturally curly hair that reaches her lower back in length. There were many steps involved including; the color removal, painting a new base color, ombre highlights, toning, and also the fashion purple color as well. In between all of this processing, I also had to wash and blow dry several times. It was a big project, but well worth it."

Here Suleiman shares the details for the transformation, using Pravana color extractor, Pravana permanent color, Redken Flashlift bleaching powder, Redken developer, Redken Shades EQ toner, Olaplex, and finally Pravana vivids.

Step 1: Formula for base color & lowlights: Pravana 3N + Pravana 20 volume developer, 1 : 1/2 ratio. Drag base through lowlights.

Step 2: Formula for lifting: Redken Flashlift + Redken 30 volume developer, 1 : 1 1/2 ratio. Also adding 1/2 oz. Olaplex step 1. Mixing bleach as needed.

Step 3: Formula for toner: Redken Shades EQ 8V & 9B equal parts + Shades processing solution, 1 : 1 ratio.

Step 4: Formula for custom purple using Pravana Vivids: Magenta 1oz. + Wild Orchid 1/2 oz. + Amethyst 1/4 oz, adding drops of violet as needed.. Olaplex number 2 also added.
