Lauren Pettinelli (@breakingbronde), co-owner of Monroe on Mane, Sturbridge, MA, says this was this client’s 5th session in the lightening process, “We started about a year and a half ago. Each appointment was done with a mixture of balayage and traditional foiling, all done with Olaplex.”  For this particular appointment Pettinelli chose to break her natural level 3 base because her ends were light enough.”

Here she shares the details for this upgrade:

Step 1: To break the base, apply Pravana 6.11 with 1 inch ash green additive with 30 volume and process for 5 minutes. Rinse.

Step 2: Tone with Rusk demi 8.01 clear 10 volume for 5 minutes. While her hair was wet I did a trim and blow dry.

Step 3: Now go in with a traditional face framing foil, switching over to backcombing foils at the crown. Color used: Matrix Light Master blended with Olaplex, starting with 30 volume, working to 40 volume.

Step 4: Using the same formula, balayage the hair left out from the foils. “Her hair can handle painting with a non-clay lightener.” Process for 30 minutes. Rinse.

Step 5: Tone with Joico Lumishine 9nv 9v 5 vol for 5 minutes. Follow with Olaplex #2 for 10 minutes. Shampoo and condition.

Step 6: Blow dry with AG Fast Food Leave on Conditioner and style with a soft wave courtesy a BabylissPRO 1 1/4 iron.
