Alex KontierCoachella is the kick off what will be trending for summer style. Sure, the pendulum swings between predictable festie staples like braids, vibrant color, glitter, crop tops and jean shorts (RIP flower crows— thankfully), but each year builds more and more on those tried-and-true trends, getting more daring and pushing the boundaries on defining what festival beauty and fashion is, and what it can be moving forward.
Festival fashion has become its own season, outside of spring, summer and resort wear. Coachella specifically is the arrow pointing to what the warm months will encompass in terms of clothes, makeup and hair, with the whole world referencing it as its guide. This year was no exception, and with Instagram and Coachella going hand-in-hand, hair and makeup looks flip-flopped daily for the 'gram, usually with sponsored hashtags and at sponsored parties, morphing from laid-back boho, to futuristic athleisure, to highlighter-colored hair braided and snaked with leather and chains. It's the ultimate dream for beauty pros to flex their creative muscles and show it off to the world.
See some of our favorite looks from weekend one, created by some of our favorite industry all-stars, along with festival-inspired hair that would fit right in on the desert polo fields—or better yet, stand out.
