2017 MODERN SALON  100: Kristin Grip (@hairbykristingrip)

by Maggie Mulhern | August 4, 2017

Kristin Grip (@hairbykristingrip), 35, of Tease Salon, Costa Mesa, CA. has more than 7,300 followers looking at her lovely makeovers and beautiful blonde and fashion finishes. She is just SOOOOO talented!

BEAUTY BIO:

Best known for: Hair extensions, but I’ve started venturing into some color corrections/transformations and gained a lot of Instagram interest so I'm considering getting more into color!

Most viral post: A post of my daughter! A side-by-side of my 5 year old with pink hair got 18,770 likes and 757 comments. I made a video the day I made her hair pink (I also did my 2 year olds hair in it) which got more than 60,000 views and 296 saves.

Favorite apps: picplaypost, photo collage, split pic, imovie, phonto, Facetune

Favorite hashtags: #modernsalon #blondebalayage #dimensionalbalayage #hairpainting #babylights

Who I’m following: @modersalon (duh!), I LOVE following @Romeufelipe @Brianacisneros @Mouniiiir

Tip to get best results on a post: It’s all about lighting and trying to show off what you created. Move your client around and find the perfect combination of pose and lighting. If you just spent 3-6 hours on someone, what’s another 5 minutes to get the perfect shot?! I can’t stress enough how important pictures are right now in our industry. As a salon owner, I have a hard time even accepting a stylist application from someone who doesn’t have an Instagram page.

Favorite professional beauty products: UNITE 7 Seconds Leave In Conditioner, Alterna Caviar shampoos and conditioners, Pulp Riot, Redken, Puff Me, my new obsession is the CHI Color Illuminate Blue Conditioner – it’s amazing and tones my hair better than any purple shampoo did.

How social media changed my life: Instagram has given the ability for the best artists to be noticed no matter where you work or how long you’ve been in the industry. I feel like I’ve been here for over a decade just wanting to be noticed by my peers in the hair community and maybe it’s finally happening.

The first time I was featured on MODERN SALON was….: This year! I got this idea in my head to push myself this spring to try new things and I took a few color clients and boom - it happened. I was obsessed with orange hair and wanted to try to do a tangerine color on someone so I got a free model off craigslist to do it. Modern Salon reposted it April 20, 2017
