MAKEOVER: Grown Out Caramel to Deeper Dimensional Design

"My client has Asian hair natural level 4," says Melissa Merlino (@express_hair_and_beauty) of Kellyville, Australia. "She has a huge amount of hair. I previously 5 months ago did caramel balayage on her hair, her roots were a level 4 ends a level 7/8 with orange undertones. We wanted a change with more lowlights and dimension through her color she also required some grey coverage. I took 2 inches off the length and added some soft layering."

Here she shares the details for this makeover:

Formula A- 30 Volume 9%  Schwarzkopf Igora Royal developer + Igora Vario Blonde powder lightener

Formula B - 20 Volume 6% Igora Royal developer + Igora Vario Blonde powder lightener

Formula C - Wella Koleston 5/0 + Wella Developer 20 Volume 6 %

Formula D - Tint - Igora Royal 6/12 (1/2) + Igora Royal 6/0 (1/2) + 20 Volume 6% developer

Toner- Wella Color Touch 1.9% + 1/4 -6/0 + 3/4 -8/38.

Step 1: Section front half of head on clients part line. Alternate colors A,B,C in foils - weaved for formulas A & B and fine slices for formula C leaving a fine weft in between each foil. Always place a light foil next to each darker foil for contrast.

Step 2: Section back of hair into thirds, repeating the same formulas above leaving a fine weft between foils.

Step 3: Apply formula D  (tint) on all regrowth from roots then apply to all leftover wefts between the foils over the whole head. Process for 40 minutes.

Step 4: Tone for 20 minutes. Apply Goldwell Vivecap Colour Lock Treatment and leave in.

Dry and style into beachy waves.
