The annual Sport Clips “Help a Hero” campaign is underway. Now through Veteran’s Day, November 11, clients and other visitors to any of the more than 1,700 Sport Clips locations across the U.S. can donate to help veterans pay for post-secondary-school education at trade schools, colleges and universities. Established by Sport Clips and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in 2013, “Help a Hero” has so far raised more than $3 million and awarded more than 800 scholarships. This year’s goal is to add $1 million to that total.

A highlight is the campaign’s “Biggest Haircut Day of the Year” on November 11, when the scholarship program will receive $1 for every haircare service at Sport Clips, a Healthy Hairdresser sponsor and the official haircutter of the VFW. That day, many participating stores also will offer free haircuts to service members and veterans with valid military identification.

“It’s fulfilling to see veterans employed, helping others, supporting themselves and their families and reaching career goals with the help of these scholarships,” says Sport Clips Founder and CEO Gordon Logan, an Air Force veteran and VFW Life member. “Even though the GI Bill has been recently updated, it still doesn’t cover all the expenses many veterans have when they return from active duty and enroll in school. This is one of the best ways we can say ‘thank you’ for what these men and women have given to our country, and it’s an honor to serve them through the support of these scholarships.”

VFW National Commander Keith Harman adds, “Together with Sport Clips’ support, we will continue to ensure today’s service members and veterans receive every opportunity for success, one scholarship at a time.”
