Starburst Orange: Pastel Hair Color Formula from Lakme USA

by Victoria Wurdinger | October 31, 2017

Think of Starburst candies, which have a matte yet pastel look. This Lakme USA technique also uses a placement pattern that imagines and mimics how the light from stars is softly diffused.

Formula & Application:
Natural level 8

Formula 1: 30 g blonde Bleaching Powder-Cream with 60 g 20-volume Collage Hydrox Developer
Formula 2: 15 g blonde Pearl toner in Pearl + 15 g Gloss 0/00 with 60 g 6-volume Gloss Developing Emulsion Long Lasting
Formula 3: 15 g Gloss 0/00 + 15 g 0/40 Orange with 60 g 6-volume Developing Emulsion
Formula 4: 10 g Collage 0/31 Polar Yellow + 20 g Collage 0/00 with 60 g 6-volume Developing Emulsion

1. Apply Formula 1 from base to ends, and pre-lighten to a pale yellow. Rinse thoroughly.
2. Tone with Formula 2 and process 5 minutes. Then rinse, shampoo and dry.
3. Apply Formula 3 in back-to-back slices. Start at the bottom and work around the head, feathering the formula up each slice. As you work, experiment with various placement patterns.
4. As you near the top, use Formula 4 on select slices. Process 30 minutes, shampoo and condition.
