Redken Global Creative Director Guido Palau talks the top trends seen at Fashion Weeks around the globe for the fall/winter 2018 season. In his FW18 Recap Report, Palau shares the top trends of the season, from ponytails to blowouts to textured tresses and statement looks.
“We celebrated individuality and personality within hair textures and lengths this past FW18 season," Palau says. "We created everything from natural textures to greasy, oiled and sprayed hair. There were also a few major fashion hair moments: from the crazy, teased beehives at Miu Miu to the Marc Jacobs Show, where Sassoon-inspired 60’s haircuts colored in jewel tones by Redken Global Color Creative Director Josh Wood made their debut.”
TOP STYLES:
Low Ponytails: "Low ponytails were once again popping throughout fashion week this season," he says. "From the wind-swept take at Sacai, to the pulled back and chic ponytails at Akris and Valentino, it's clear that the low, face-accentuating pony is making a comeback."
Modern Blowout: "A true blow dry is now back in style, with some nuances," Palau says. "From a full, stylist-level blowout...to enhancing your own texture with a diffuser, we took the blowout to new levels backstage at shows like Dior, Alberta Ferretti, Versace, Christopher Kane and Ralph Lauren this season."
Natural Texture: "The natural texture trend is here to stay, with models all over the runways rocking their natural curls, and some even having their natural texture enhanced with an iron," he says.
Statement-Making: "This past season, we saw bad-girl hair at Miu Miu with a splash of color, the return of the banana clip at Alexander Wang, long, dominant braids at Alexander McQueen, and a full color rainbow at Marc Jacobs," Palau says.
