Kirstin Forbes got her start with fashion hair about five or six years ago when she met photographer Thuy Vo. Vo contacted Forbes and asked her to do hair for one of her commercial shoots. Forbes immediately fell in love with the ability to create editorial looks you wouldn't see on an everyday person.
"I'm always learning new styling techniques and I love being able to utilize it all; there really is no wrong way to create art," Forbes says.
Forbes and Vo worked together on the Modernist Jewels Collection. They wanted to depart from loose, airy boho looks and bring back the sleek, considering the face shape the models have to help with direction and hair placement.
"Jewel tones have been popping up everywhere, so we paired these looks with modern color," Forbes says. "We chose to go with more of a striking eye and slight gold lip, leaving the face natural."
For the styling, Forbes used a comb, paired with Pravana stylers and a single pin.
"I planned the whole collection together with my squad; we have worked together for years, creating high-fashion looks as well as commercial fashion for publications and competitions," she says. "I wouldn't be where I am today without them. Each collection that we create comes from late night brainstorming sessions where we create ideas together and put our individual twist on each part of the look."
