HOW-TO: Platinum Hair with Orange and Yellow Highlights from Todd Kane and Matrix

Collection Inspiration

Inspired by his Japanese travels when he was still a student at Penrose Academy in Scottsdale, Arizona, Todd Kane's most recent collection Empire of The Sun, is a direct result of the connections you can make through doing good. While dining with his husband and discussing his charity, Love Out Lavender—a charity that encourages artists to create inspiring images to generate donations for cancer awareness—his server Hannah Mackie shared her own story of losing her father to prostate cancer. Through this chance meeting, Todd saw an opportunity to put Hannah at the heart of his collection by having her model the vibrant looks.  

Todd’s latest collection utilizes the new Matrix SOCOLOR Cult shades in Lucky Ducky, Orange Alert and Clear. Throughout the shoot the look really came to life with styling that played with both movement and texture. Utilizing the new Biolage Blowdry Glotion and Biolage Texture Sap from the Biolage styling line.

 

FORMULAS

Natural Level 7 Dark Blonde

Lightener Formula: 1 scoop Light Master & ½ oz. Oil Additive & 1 oz. 30 Volume MATRIX Cream Developer

Dimensional Formula: Lucky Ducky Yellow semi & drops of Orange Alert semi

Toner Formula: Equal parts Socolor Cult Lucky Ducky Yellow demi & Clear demi & 10 Volume MATRIX Cream Developer

APPLICATION: 

Apply Lightener formula to mid-lengths and ends first until Pre-lighten to a pale yellow

Use 4-quadrant sectioning and ⅛ inch sub-sections. Apply Lightener Formula starting ½ inch away from scalp, pulling through mid-lengths and ends.

Process until ⅔ of desired lightness is achieved. Mix Lightener Formula for scalp and apply.

Process for up to 50 minutes. Rinse thoroughly, shampoo and lightly mist with Total Results Pro-Solutionist Instacure on the mid-lengths and ends. Next, strategically isolate pieces of hair around the face in in the fringe section onto foil and apply the Dimensional Formula. Apply the toner formula to all remaining hair outside of the foils. Process up to 20 minutes, rinse thoroughly cleanse and condition using Total Results Re-Bond Shampoo and Conditioner.
