Nicole DeStefano (@beautyhivebynicole), owner of the Beauty Hive Salon in  Roanoke, TX, knew she had to move slowly and carefully when suggesting a different hair color plan to her client. "When a guest comes in who has been getting highlights, it can be an exciting and scary thing for them to add depth back into their hair. Transition them gently. This gorgeous client wanted a softer grow out and less brass."

STEP 1: Apply L'Oreal Majirel 7.1 plus 20 vol to new growth and 25% gray hair.

STEP 2: Take a wide tooth comb and blend the color down.

STEP 3: Apply lowlights in a balayage pattern leaving the ends out of the lowlight with Redken Shades EQ 07nw+ 08n.

STEP 4: For the last 15 minutes between foils, tease the hair left out and apply L'Oreal's Multi-Technique Lightener and 9 vol.

STEP 5: Rinse the hair and apply Olaplex # 2. Work out the tease.

STEP 6: Apply Pulp Riot Barcelona and heavily saturate for a lot of toning power.

FINISH: Blowout and curl the hair.
