Most viral post: In 2014, I did a rose gold balayage, with some last minute pops of deep purple. The idea was to have the purple look like hidden ribbons. It took almost a year to post the photo because I wasn’t super happy with what I called “PBJ hair.” When I finally posted it, it went viral. I had a waiting list of people wanting “ribboning” in different colors. It now has more than one million shares, tags and comments among Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook.

Favorite apps: I love PLANN. It allows me to plot out my posts and saves me time. My evenings are now open to spending time with my family instead of keeping up with posts. LumaFusion has been fantastic in helping me create better videos for Instagram. It’s an expensive app but well worth it. Photoshop Fix is fantastic for adjusting a background and removing fly away hairs without having the overall color of the hair get distorted.

Pro tips: One of the best investments I have made was a DSLR camera and Philips HUE lighting in my suite. The camera allows me to get better quality images. I can manually adjust the ISO so that if the sun is down, I can still get a great shot. The lights are key here because I can actually adjust them to be a true white lighting instead of having florescent track lighting. I also have photography lights that I can add into the mix if natural lighting has gone down.

Hidden talent (beauty-related): My hidden talent is my speed. I can do a creative color on an average head in under four hours. Does a good attitude count? I think that’s a hidden talent too.

Hidden talent: I can sing all of Minnie’s Yoo Hoo and even have little voices to accent the song. Actually, I know the words to just about every Disney song ever.

How social media changed my life: Social Media allowed me to grow a clientele in a short amount of time. I came into this industry from a military background and had no idea how to get people in my chair. I have also been given incredible opportunities that I thought would just always be dreams.

The first time I was featured on MODERN’s Insta: I remember that Modern Salon posted a photo of a Cruella Deville inspired color I did on a friend of mine. I called my mom in tears because I was so excited and felt so proud.
