Julie Holbrook @_avesalon (@headrushdesigns) is an Ogden, Utah artist who proudly calls herself a "pink and short hair lover." Her 20K followers are treated to delightful finishes with everything from lobs to bobs to lovely transformations. Many (ok most) of these looks have a touch of pink somewhere in the finish which makes her comment "I think everyone should have pink in their hair at least once!" make a bit more sense.

Ave Salon, Ogden, Utah

Specialty: short bobbed hair cuts and vibrant /pastel colors

Followers: 20K

Most viral post: I did a collaboration with my friend/boss Carolynn Judd. She did the cut and I did the color. The color was unique and stood out. We called it amethyst and copper.

Favorite apps: Facetune, Over, and Layout.

Favorite hashtags: #hairgoals, #shorthairdontcare, #modernsalon

I follow: I have to say all my Ave babes. @JustinAnderson (he makes me laugh every day and doesn’t take himself too seriously), @targetdoesitagain (keeps me in check), @Earth (inspiration is everywhere around us and it helps me see it and traveling is my most favorite thing besides hair), and @RebeccaTaylorHair (she is the nicest person. I love her colors and her “realness.”)

Pro tips: Go for natural lighting if possible. Also, a solid background. Take a million pics with different angles. I post in the morning or early evening when I assume more people are on. I try to respond to all my comments to keep engaged.

Hidden talent (beauty-releated): I’m really good at nails. While building my clientele they kept me afloat and that honestly is how I got new hair clients because they began to trust me.

Hidden talent: I’m obsessed with organizing, although I’m not sure that’s a talent I also love camping which isn’t a talent either but anytime I say we are going camping people look at me and say “really you camping?”

How social media changed my life: It’s a second job for sure, but to visually see your work change and grow is amazing. It’s cool to see when you take education and implement what you’ve learned and how much it changes your work - it’s an online scrap book. It’s nice to feel how supportive and loving our industry is.

The first time I was featured on MODERN’s Insta: My first feature was about a year ago - a blonde asymmetrical bob with a tiny pop of pink at the very end. She has always been very conservative and wanted to try a fun color but start slow so she let me do the smallest amount of color we could get away with and the most pastel color possible and since then she has had blue hair, purple you name it. It was so cool to have her and me take a risk and to see you guys love it was awesome!
