Effortless and timeless, straight and sleek, this look was seen at recent Fashion Week shows in New York, London and now Milan. Trendsetters like Kate Bosworth, Jamie King, and Gabrielle Union have all sported a take on this style. Hair artist Donald Scott shares how to get these strong lines and major impact:
Tip #1 PREP & CUT: To instantly smooth hair strands to prevent accidental breakage, I like to start this shape with DSNYC Prepare Liquid tool glide & finishing tool, as it provides superior slide and slip for cutting. It’s formulated with pure coconut and sunflower oils for high shine. Then part down the center back of the head and cut on the skin with your scissors for the outer shape.
Tip # 2 ADD DETAIL: After I have the outer shape, I like to switch to my Swivel Twist Razor, to create layers and soften the inner shape of the hair. You can do this by sectioning down the center back of the head take vertical sections from the crown and cut with the 100% side off the Swivel Twist at 90 degree angle, pivoting from the vortex until you reach to just behind the ear. Continue this with the side sections and bang area.
Tip # 3 TEXTURIZE: After the cut is completed and dried, redefine the shape by sectioning the hair on the opposite diagonal and cut the ends of the hair internally so it has a soft fluid movement with a precision strong perimeter.
