“Plan Your Work, and Work Your Plan”

When you look at the beauty imagery that explodes with engagement on Instagram, the bulk of it is color-based. With the visual intensity the platform offers, it’s no surprise color performs so well.

But one cutting specialist has broken through to the popular pages for his education-based cutting content that diagrams his every move—the sections, projection, root movement, cutting angle and contouring.

Romanian-based Ciprian Vaida lives in a city called Brasov, "30km away from the famous Dracula Castle." He started showcasing his finished haircuts juxtaposed with detailed illustrations a few years ago and it took off—the comments on his posts range from beauty school students and new talent thanking him for his explanations, to seasoned professionals seeing new perspective with Vaida’s vision.

“Plan your work, and work your plan,” Vaida says of his mapped-out illustrations. “Keep in mind that we are in the beauty business so take your time to plan thoroughly. Check everything, the head shape, bone structure, hair density and texture before you make a decision. Plan your hair cut and then work your plan.”

Vaida is an expert in precision cutting, pixies, abstract disconnection, blunt fringes and creating graphic lines in the hair. He started cutting at 16 years old, opening his own salon at age 20.

“That was when I attended my first precision cutting course at Sassoon in London,” he says. “Since then, 8 years later, I’ve attended as many cutting courses as I can—HOB, Toni&Guy, Mazella&Palmer, Zgat, Allilon.”

Vaida currently owns a small salon where he is fully booked and a private education center in the same building where he spends two hours each day with his students, and then heads to the salon for an 8-hour day.

“When it comes to precision cutting, it’s like going to the gym,” he says. “If you want to get abs, you need to constantly train. So this is what I do—I practice daily!”
