KMS National Artist Patrick Higgins is dishing out his tips for a sleek undercut style.

To create the illusion of a sleek, short hairstyle, Higgins says to simply twist the sides to appear as an undercut. This should give the silhouette a modern, polished look.

Follow these steps to create the look:

Step 1: Begin by taking a section of the hair from the low point of the crown to low recession, securing the top section away.

Step 2: Tightly brush the hair on the left side back, wrapping it into a twist mimicking a french twist before applying the KMS HAIRSTAY Working Hairspray to lock it in. Repeat on the right and secure both twists together.

Step 3: Separate the top section into three horizontal sections. Starting just below the crown to the high point of the head, backcomb the back section three times, the middle section two times and the front section once.

Step 4: Begin curling each section, alternating the direction of the curls while using two different sized curling irons (3/4” and 1/8”).

Step 5: Secure each curl to form a set and allow them to cool. Then, pull apart each curl to create and expand the set, taking U pins or

Step 6: Lastly, taking U pins or grips, sculpt the hair into the desired style.
