Updo specialist Casey Campisi, @Hairbycaseyveda, says that social media has actually given her more confidence, adding that it has “forced me to push myself to achieve personal goals and believe more in myself. It has definitely given me thicker skin and showed me that everyone can shine in their own way.”

Specialty: Updos and updo tutorials

Top-performing post: My most engaged post was a blonde bun updo. I feel this post went viral because of its simplicity, ironically enough. A classic bun will never go out of style in my opinion.

Favorite apps: My favorite apps for my Instagram content are VSCO, the Iphone photo editor and Unfold for stories. VSCO has some cool features, like a grain effect, and is really easy to use. You can’t go wrong with the Iphone photo editor. I love the Brilliance option. Unfold really helps your stories stand out with different layouts and fonts.

Pro tip: For the best results on a post, I feel it’s a combination of things. The time of day and day of the week does matter! You want to catch people when they are most likely on Instagram like lunch time or first thing in the morning. The right hashtags can create a lot of engagement. Mixing them up is a good strategy. Use some extremely popular ones and a few that you would most likely type in if you were searching for what it is you’re posting. Lastly, get people talking! Try to post something that will get comments or tags in your comments. Ask a question in your caption or even try giveaways.

Hidden talent: If needed, I can do a full head of curls in about five minutes.

Fun fact: I have two different colored eyes.

My audience follows me because: I love teaching, and I love doing tutorials. It’s amazing being able to educate people I have never met.

How social media changed my life: I started my professional Instagram about a year ago, and it has challenged me in so many ways but has also given me more confidence. It forced me to push myself to achieve personal goals and believe more in myself. It has definitely given me thicker skin and showed me that everyone can shine in their own way. Just do your best and support people doing their best. Possibly my favorite thing about social media is that it has allowed me to connect with some of the most amazing people and talents in the industry. It’s truly been humbling and inspiring.

My first @modernsalon feature: My first feature on Modern Salon’s Instagram still hasn’t hit me! I would describe it best as surreal. It was a low messy Chignon done on a silver colored wig. Being posted helped validate to me that hard work, consistency and believing in yourself will help you achieve your goals and I am forever grateful!
