Before: After addressing the new growth, the colorists formulate two unique shades using the new Leonardo collection. A rose copper and a deeper copper were alternated throughout in diagonal sections to create a tasteful flow and blend.
Step 1: Begin the retouch. Create a red mahogany violet using Alfaparf Milano Evolution of the Color, Dream Like Leonardo collection, 3 parts 7.452 + 1 part 6.562 with 10-volume developer and apply to new growth.
Step 2: While retouch formula processes, apply two shades to lengths in diagonal sections to add dimension. Alternate the two shades throughout, beginning with the lightest formula: 9.442 + 2 g rose-copper Pigments + 2 g of copper Pigments with 20-volume developer.
Step 3: For the second formula mix 7.452 + 2 g copper Pigments with 20-volume developer to make a copper mahogany violet.
Step 4: Comb through each section for even saturation.
Step 5: Process according to manufacturer’s instructions. Rinse, shampoo and condition, and dry hair.
Step 6: Style into a chignon at the nape.

Before: Lane and Flores plan to enrich the model's color using shades from the Leonardo collection to tone her over-processed level-10 highlights. “The highlights were too light for her base,” Lane says. “We wanted to add vibrancy and life to her overall shade.” The artists covered the existing highlights, alternating two shades over the existing lifted sections, to enhance the color and add shine.
Step 1: Begin the retouch using Alfaparf Color Wear Clear + 6 g Golden Mahogany pigment with 5-volume developer in a 1:2 ratio. Apply in ¼-inch sections throughout the hair.
Step 2: To the existing highlights alternate two formulas. Formula one: Mix Alfaparf Evolution of the Color Leonardo collection 8.642 with 20 volume in a 1:2 ratio to create a level-8 red copper violet. Formula two: Mix Alfaparf Evolution of the Color Leonardo collection 6.562 with 20 volume in a 1:2 ratio to create a level 6 mahogany red violet.
Step 3: Comb or massage through for even saturation.
Step 4: Color placed as shown. Process according to manufacturer’s instructions. Rinse, shampoo and condition.

It’s never too early to start preparing for holiday looks, considering those special-occasion finishes are perfect for any fall and winter festivities. Three hairdressing pros demonstrate how dimensional color and intricate styling can make a special look even more interesting. Alfaparf Milano Master Colorists Lindsay Lane and Michele Flores, along with MODERN Artist Connective member Haley Garber joined forces to transform two models: a redhead in need of a gentle correction and upgrade, and a highly textured model who found her overprocessed highlights interrupted the flow of her natural curl.
The artists used shades from the new Alfaparf Milano Dream Like Leonardo collection, which Flores says, “Celebrates the artistic mastery of Leonardo da Vinci and gives salon pros the ability to combine shades to create new, exciting and vibrant colors.”
Both freshly colored models were sent to updo artist Garber, known for her braids, florets and bridal finishes. Garber twisted, turned and knotted the hair for glamorous silhouettes enhanced by two of her favorite products: Alfaparf Milano Style Stories Vintage Powder and Spray Wax.
“It’s important to prep braids with product,” Garber says. “I start with a cream and then use texture powder to add grip and hold.”
