Danielle Fusco (@_danielledoeshair) of the Lady T Hair Salon, Watertown, Connecticut, says that this timeless look for client Nicole (winner of the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars!) wanted something edgy but still classy. “It’s been so long since she’d seen a hairdresser due to her long hours. She had some gray pieces to address not only through the top but through the mids as well.”

Makeover by Danielle Fusco, using Malibu C and Joico.

Here Fusco shares the details for this makeover:

STEP 1: Clarify the hair with Malibu C Un-Do-Goo and Hard Water Wellness Shampoo to remove any build up from her water.

STEP 2: Using your favorite lightener, apply tease-y highlights (to damp hair) throughout. “I like to tease-y light on damp hair because it absorbs the color better, a technique I learned in a class from Lisa Walker (@LisaLovesBalayage).” Lift to a level 8/9. Rinse.

STEP 3: Apply color to wet hair. To the root apply Joico Permanent Creme 4N + 5NRV. Then apply 6NC + 6CC + 7CC from mids to ends. All color blended with 10 volume developer. Process according the manufacturer’s instructions. Rinse.

STEP 4: To intensify the gold, gloss with Joico’s Demi permanent Liquid Gold Booster and 5 volume. Process for 10 minutes. Rinse.
