When Gilad Goldstein is looking to add life and texture to his hair cuts, he turns toward a color technique. Just like colorists slice and weave sections of hair for perfect highlights, Goldstein says the method can be used to create an internal layer for shorter hair cuts.

"Overdirecting to the opposite side helps create movement and softness," he says.

Goldstein creates his stunning hair transformations for Ulta Beauty clients in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He's also a member of Ulta's Design Team, where he gets to collaborate on photoshoots, educate at hair shows and serve as the faces of Ulta. Nick Stenson, Ulta VP of salon services and trend, and Ammon Carver, Ulta chief artsit director, formed the team, which includes 15 members who serve as brand ambassadors. Each member receives mentorship, education and exposure, such as training and stage experience.

“Working with MODERN and Ulta has connected me to a network of stylists and brands that align with my personal style,” Goldstein says. "We are a team; we trust each other and learn from each other."
