“It had been more than six months since this client had color,” says Janel Latessa (@hairbyjanellatessa), owner/master stylist at JL Hair Artistry, Mayfield Heights, Ohio. “It was time!”

Here Latessa shares the details for this fresh color design on her client’s very thick hair, a session that took two hours alone to foil:

STEP 1: Apply a full head mixture of babylights, teasy-lights and open air balayage. Within each foil apply Lakmé K-blonde cream lightener. The cream has Tsubaki oil which moisturizes and softens the hair yet still gives 7 levels of lift.

STEP 2: Shampoo/pre-tone with Fanola No Orange shampoo. “The blue eliminated any leftover orange tones and brightened the highlights.”

STEP 3: Root melt using Lakmé Gloss 6/0 for 10 minutes. Finish with Fanola No Yellow Mask. Style using the BabylissPro 1 inch curling iron, leaving the ends out. Polish with Ecru New York Texture Spray.
