Color Transformation How-To: From Virgin Blonde Hair to Vibrant Red

We're big fans of a dramatic transformation, so when we saw MODERN Artist Connective member Britny Bassett's recent makeover, we immediately wanted to know the details.

The Richmond, Virginia, colorist is known for her stunning naturals: blondes, brunettes and redheads. We are constantly blown away by her beautiful finishes, and this recent transformation was everything we were looking for. Luckily for us, and her more than 17,000 followers, Bassett loves to share tips and tricks to her success in the salon.

"My client came in wanting dramatic results, and that's exactly what she got," Bassett says. "We achieved the look using three Tones from Aloxxi and a reverse balayage."

The client had virgin level 8/9 strawberry blonde hair.

"I chose to use Aloxxi's Tnes Demi Permanent color for this transformation because of how rich and vibrant they are," Bassett says. "I know I can count on their consistency to create blended color every time, even with gray coverage."

The color is designed to condition, deposit color and protect the hair to provide dimension. The formula is also ammonia-free.

Formula and Steps:

Root: 5rm

Low: 6xr

Highlight: 8k

"I started by dragging her root (5rm) in a tear drop shape; less root towards her face, deepening as we reached the back of her head. I then alternated the high and low, taking two inch sections for my lowlight (6xr) and once inch section for my highlight (8k)! I used a brush for each section to blend the root into the accompanying tone. It was very simple, and such a beautiful change for this virgin blonde!"
